Hypnotoad
With the employees at the Planet Express in Futurama, it has got a huge array of characters, co-workers, townspeople, aliens, villains etc. Hypnotoad is one of the main, supporting and a recurring character. Hypnotoad’s very first appearance was in “The Day the Earth Stood Stupid”.
Hypnotoad is kind of a large toad-like creature, who has fluctuating calico eyes and oozes out a droning hum. Hypnotoad’s eyes are always glowing, like some kind of a fluctuating bulb. The toad ostensibly uses these qualities as the powers of hypnotism on the surrounding people and animals to get them under his own control. In one of the show, Hypnotoad hypnotized a sheep into a pen in a pet contest and after that he hypnotized the judges and all of the audience to award the first prize to himself.
Hypnotoad is fairly a large frog with eyes that have the power to put anything or anyone that looks into them in a hypnotic catalepsy, compelling them to do whatever he wants them to do. His eyes are chiefly red having yellowish rings about it.
The primeval of Hypnotoad is unknown, but it is contemplated that the Hypnotoad is an alien, a mutant or an outcome of genetic engineering. It also seems that Hypnotoad is the only one of his kind to be found on Earth, there isn’t any sign of anyone like him on Earth or on any other planet. Hypnotoad had one of his own shows known as “Everyone Loves Hypnotoad”. The show consisted of stationary camera that filmed Hypnotoad and the noise he made continuously. In spite of the odd presupposition of the show, it was a success for the first three seasons, most probably because it hypnotized the audience watching it!
In the episode of Everybody Loves Hypnotoad you get to see the Hypnotoad hypnotizing you the whole time. Continuously every few minutes there is a constitutional shot of an exterior of a building, indicating that the location has changed, but the background of the main action is always white but there are little changes throughout the show. Like at some point there is gunfire or a brief visit to the city that suggests that the Hypnotoad is gone on date.
The sound that the Hypnotoad makes is the recording of a turbine engine being played backwards. The sound was eccentrically a temporary act, but it was completely so wrong that it just had to be used. The name given to the sound effect was “Angry Machine”. By research it is said that Hypnotoad is one of Matt Groening’s favorite characters. “ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD”-the line used by the judges in the animal show became an internet sensation and it was being used on many Hypnotoad clips and images. There also happens to be a iPhone application which is called the Hypnotoad in which you have the power to change the color of Hypnotoad and watch him for as long as you like, and you’ll be told that how much time you had spent just watching the Hypnotoad. And if you shake the iPhone Touch a voice comes put saying “All Glory to the Hypnotoad”!! Hypnotoad also made a “junkie” appearance in the trailer of “Bender’s Big Score”, in which he said “Buy it, Buy it, Buy it, Buy it.”
So if you want to watch the Hypnotoad in action you should watch Futurama and Everyone Loves Hypnotoad to get hypnotized!! ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD!!!
